The rurality of Amares contains an intrinsic religiosity manifested in various traditions, festivals and pilgrimages.
The paths and villages are also dotted with crosses, niches and shrines, a genuine heritage that is important to preserve. But what most characterizes Amares in this field are its chapels on top of the mountains and, above all, its large monasteries, whether that of St. André de Rendufe or St. Maria de Bouro, the latter largely transformed into one of the most attractive Pousadas in the world.
Likewise, the Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Abadia and its surroundings, a traditional place of passage for pilgrims of S. Bento, constitute another space with its own mystique.
