Amares, between Homem and Cávado, is one of the 14 municipalities that make up the district of Braga. It is 14 km from the city of Braga and is made up of 16 parishes, covering an area of 83 km2. It is bordered by the municipalities of Braga, Vila Verde, Terras de Bouro, Póvoa de Lanhoso and Vieira do Minho.

With one of the most beautiful landscapes in Minho, it recalls the Roman civilization in the crossing of the Geira, which connected Braga to Astorga.

Associated with noble and illustrious knights, such as D. Gualdim Pais and Mendo Moniz, it was the destination of the poet Sá de Miranda. More recently, he met the famous son António Variações.

Amares is a land of medieval manors and monasteries of the Benedictine and Cistercian Orders. With the soul of a simple and hospitable people, enchanted by the whisper of the waters of the two rivers, they harvest from the land and bring to the table homemade cuisine, accompanied by the true nectar of one of the best green wines and juicy orange.

The Caldelas spa, the Abbey, the mountains, the picnic areas, the landscape, the rural setting and the leisure areas next to the rivers invite you to a relaxing visit. You can hear the whisper of the waters that tear through streams and once moved mills, many of which have now been restored from the ruins in which they were found.

In crafts, traditions, customs and traditions, festivals and pilgrimages, we find the necessary attractions for an attentive visit.
